The Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig (SPD), has rejected allegations that Nord Stream 2 AG had considerable influence in the establishment of the state's so-called climate foundation.

Schwesig said Tuesday the allegations were false.

The idea of founding the company was developed within the state government by the then energy minister Christian level (SPD).

Of course there were also discussions with Nord Stream, said Schwesig.

"But we made our own decisions in the state government and in the state parliament and nobody else."

The newspaper "Die Welt" had previously reported on documents that it received with legal help from the State Chancellery and that gave a different impression.

A "Communications Manager Germany" from Nord Stream 2 AG sent today's Minister of the Interior, leve, comments on the communication and positioning of the foundation: "We should try to position the foundation with a wink as a 'smart answer' to the hardliner behavior of the USA .”

Schwesig described the establishment of the foundation after the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a mistake and sharply criticized Russia.

The foundation is now to be dissolved, even if it is still unclear how this will go legally.

The CDU, which is now in opposition, has announced, together with the Greens and the FDP, that they will set up a committee of inquiry into the background to the climate foundation.

The committee is scheduled to start its work in May.
