A body was recovered from a canal this Sunday in the town of Chipilly, near Amiens (Somme).

The car, an Audi A3, had fallen into the canal with the trunk open.

Inside was the body of a man.

The fire brigade and the gendarmerie were mobilized on the spot.

An open investigation

Underwater investigators from the river brigade intervened to retrieve the body.

A medical examiner was also called to help identify the victim.

Sunday noon, the authorities announced that it was a man in his fifties living in the area.

The victim's family has been notified.

An investigation has been launched to determine the precise circumstances of the tragedy.
