Le Pen came first in Denain

In Denain, as five years ago, the candidate of the National Rally came well ahead of the first round with nearly 42% of the vote.

In second position, Jean-Luc Mélenchon also achieved an important score with 28.5% of the vote, very far ahead of the outgoing president, at 15%.

Denain is also the former capital of coal and steel.

A town held by the left for more than a century.

The spokesperson for the National Rally, Sébastien Chenu, has also failed to take the city during the last municipal elections.

Through this trip to one of the poorest municipalities in France, Emmanuel Macron therefore wants to address the working classes, and in particular talk about purchasing power, the central theme of the campaign.

He should take the opportunity to attack Marine Le Pen's proposals head-on.
