Abusing nitrous oxide, which is found in cream siphons, for example, is associated with a lot of health risks.

The nitrous oxide can, among other things, cause a lack of oxygen in the brain, but also cause long-term damage to nerves and spinal cord.

And in the Värnamo police area, it is noticeable that the use of nitrous oxide is increasing.

Recently, a large number of empty tubes were found in a residential area.

- This has really escalated throughout the winter.

We have not seen these quantities before, says Sofie Fast, area police.

Hear Sofie Fast tell in the clip above.

Used with alcohol

The police suspect that it is to some extent young people who are experimenting with intoxicants, but also see that a more regular, daily use of nitrous oxide is increasing.

- Nitrous oxide is often used together with both alcohol and drug-classified drugs.

Even though it is not illegal, this type of nitrous oxide is not made to be used in this way, says Sofie Fast.

In a post on social media, the police now warn of the increased use and at the same time urge parents to pay attention.

- If nitrous oxide cartridges disappear or if you find balloons in strange places, it is good to talk to your young people about the risks.
