A psychiatric report detected in him "an alteration of responsibility" but he remains "criminally responsible for his actions".

The man suspected of having planted a parcel bomb on Friday in the Saint-Etienne cathedral in Toulouse, while a mass was taking place, was indicted and imprisoned.

The suspect was indicted on Saturday "for premeditated violence that did not result in a total interruption of work," said the Toulouse prosecutor's office, specifying that the defendant had a criminal record.

He has already been convicted for acts of violence with a weapon.

The 40-year-old is also suspected of being involved in another suspicious package case, dating back to March 23, in the Toulouse metro.

An open judicial inquiry

Friday morning, around 8:40 a.m., this man had appeared in the cathedral where around forty worshipers were gathered.

He had placed a package at the foot of the altar before fleeing, causing the evacuation of the building and the intervention of the deminers.

The package contained an improvised explosive device, but which was not connected to any firing system.

Neutralized, he did not hurt.

The fugitive suspect, identified through video surveillance, was arrested a few hours later in the town of Balma.

A judicial inquiry has been opened.

It should make it possible to learn more about the profile and the motivations of the explosive planter.
