The ministerial talks on foreign affairs and defense between Japan and the Philippines, the so-called "2 plus 2", was held for the first time. We agreed to strengthen.

The first "2 plus 2" between Japan and the Philippines was held in Tokyo with the attendance of Foreign Minister Hayashi and Defense Minister Kishi from the Japanese side, and Foreign Minister Roxin and Defense Minister Lorenzana from the Philippine side.

At the beginning, Minister Hayashi said, "China's unilateral attempts to change the status quo against the backdrop of power are continuing in the East China Sea and South China Sea, and we are facing many challenges to the international order."

In a joint statement compiled at the talks, he expressed serious concern about the situation in the East China Sea and the South China Sea, and strongly opposed the act of raising tensions, with China in mind as it strengthens its marine expansion.

He accused Russia of having dire humanitarian consequences over its military invasion of Ukraine, and these invasions jeopardized the foundations of an international order that would not allow unilateral changes in the status quo by force, Europe. We shared the recognition that it will affect not only Russia but also Asia.

In addition, we will promote the transfer of defense equipment and technology between Japan and the Philippines, and strengthen defense cooperation by starting to consider a framework for facilitating mutual provision of goods between the Self-Defense Forces and the Philippine Army. It was a match by doing.
