The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which hosts the Oscars, has banned Hollywood actor Will Smith from attending the awards ceremony for 10 years.
Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards on the 27th of last month for jokingly joking his wife, who suffers from alopecia.
He later voluntarily resigned from his post as a member of the Academy, in which he issued an apology statement.
Initially, the Academy had planned to discuss disciplinary measures against Smith, such as expulsion from membership and suspension of qualifications, but when Smith returned his membership, a separate sanction was decided at the meeting.
The Academy said in a statement that the 10-year ban was "accepted by Smith for unacceptable and harmful behavior."
