The Liberal Democratic Party has begun discussions on three security-related documents, including the national security strategy, which the government plans to revise by the end of the year, to compile recommendations to the government.


At the meeting, there were a number of opinions that the "Defense Program Outline", which guides the development of defense capabilities, should be newly formulated as a "National Defense Strategy" that includes more strategic elements, as in the United States.

The government plans to revise the National Security Strategy, the National Defense Program Outline, and the Medium-Term Defense Program by the end of the year, saying that the security environment surrounding Japan is rapidly becoming more severe.



The Liberal Democratic Party has decided to put together a proposal to the government for the revision, and held a security investigation committee to start discussions on putting together the proposal.



At the meeting, there were a number of opinions that the "Defense Program Outline", which guides the development of defense capabilities, should be newly formulated as a "National Defense Strategy" that includes more strategic elements, as in the United States. ..



In addition, the name of the "Medium-term Defense Force Development Plan," which stipulates the scale of specific equipment maintenance for five years and the total amount of defense spending, has been revised to a 10-year plan that is the same as the national defense strategy. Next week, the Liberal Democratic Party plans to gather opinions on how to handle the so-called "enemy base attack capability", compile recommendations by the end of this month, and incorporate them into the upper house election pledge.
