The last resistance fighter who fought on the Glières plateau (Haute-Savoie) during the Second World War recently died at the age of 104.

Jean Isaac-Tresca, born in 1918, belonged to the 27th battalion of Alpine hunters from Annecy.

Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to him this Wednesday in a press release, reports France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

Live free or die, such was the motto of the resistance fighters of the Glières maquis.

Jean Isaac-Tresca was the last of them.

He said no to the occupier, yes to the honor of France.

His legacy will live.

We will always rekindle the flame of resistance.

It was in the winter of 1944 that Jean Isaac-Tesca, baptized "Pasquier" in the maquis, and his companions in the Resistance settled on the Glières plateau, in the Bornes massif at an altitude of 1,450 m, to fight the Germans.

After the war, he had become an engineer and had lived for a long time in Japan.
