Propaganda is a common weapon of warfare, and the war in Ukraine is no exception.

Russian disinformation is spread on state television channels and on social media.

"Many Russians take this extraordinary propaganda seriously," said David Crouch, a senior lecturer in journalism and a former correspondent in Russia and Ukraine.

But it is not only the Russian population that can be affected.

In the West, Russian disinformation can aim to arouse general doubt and distrust in the recipient, says Orla Vigsö, professor of media and communication science.
