In the County Administrative Board's study of young people's growing up conditions, Skurup is one of the municipalities that ends up at the bottom.

The reason is, among other things, the survey of schooling for girls in their early teens.

Based on several parameters, the County Administrative Board has produced an index for how young people are in school.

Behind the measurement of early school success is a weighting of school results in year 3 and student surveys in year 6. In Skurup, the survey shows that 61 percent of girls in the sixth grade experience that they have study difficulties, but their results are on a par with the Skåne average.

- We may be bad at encouraging them and the explanation is probably that there has been a lot of focus on getting the older students eligible for high school.

We may have forgotten early initiatives and now we have to get to grips with it, says Lena Planken, head of administration for the school and education administration in Skurup.

Experiencing some confirmation from teachers

When it comes to being confirmed and seen by the teachers, the girls in Skurup are the worst off in the county according to the county administrative board's report.

- We have probably not looked at these issues in a few years.

It is clear that you want to focus on everything at the same time, but we have not had that, admits Lena Planken.

Now investing money in early efforts

Skurup municipality will use part of the so-called school billion for early intervention in the school.

Getting more students in year 6 to be interested in law school is also part of the municipality's planned measures.
