- We have so far been spared from bird flu in our county, but now we have unfortunately got our first case, at least in a long time, says Ulrika Lind, county veterinarian at the County Administrative Board Kronoberg in a press release.

It was during a forest walk that Rolf Björheden, basically forester, saw the wise bird, and he quickly understood that something was not right.

In the County Administrative Board's press release, he says:

- I tied up my dog so that it would not come into contact with the bird.

Then I caught the laughing gull and killed it, put it in a plastic bag and contacted the Swedish Veterinary Institute (SVA), which instructed me on how to send in the bird, says Rolf Björheden.

The County Administrative Board now urges animal owners to call a veterinarian quickly in case of suspected disease in pets, in order to prevent the spread of infection.

If sick or dead birds are found, the Swedish Veterinary Institute (SVA) wants to receive reports.
