"Because I want to guarantee the supply of France and I do not want that, because the prices are very high, we export a lot to make a lot of money", he continued.
The leader of the Insoumis (LFI) also proposes the opening of "intergovernmental supply conferences".
"Algeria, 68% of its wheat comes from France, Morocco, it's 33%, Tunisia, it's 17%", he underlined, adding that a supply crisis of cereals in these countries "would cause a social upheaval".
"We can provide the guarantee to the Algerians that they will have cereals at the normal price, and not at the speculative one, and perhaps they could guarantee us that we will have oil and gas at the normal price and not at the speculative”, developed Mr. Mélenchon.
To respond to the soaring prices following the war in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed on Russia, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is proposing a freeze on the prices of basic necessities and a freeze on the price of fuel at 1.4 euros per litre.
