Young people write too poorly and need to increase their writing ability.

According to the documentary Skrivglappet that Utbildningsradion (UR) released in the autumn of 2020 to draw attention to the societal challenge that a lack of writing ability can mean for young people's future.

In connection with this, they started a competition where seventh graders had the opportunity to show off their writing skills.

The students were given ten challenges in writing, as a summary of a testimony, a football match and applying for a job at the Melodifestivalen.

Hortlax students best at writing

Of all those who participated around the country, it was the football class, now 8B, from Hortlax school in Piteå who won the writing competition.

- Great fun, you never thought of that, says student Ellen Lundholm.

"Great to get young and write more"

The prize was a writing inspiration day with the author, host and actress Clara Henry, sports journalist Johanna Frändén and police officer Nadim Ghazale.

- It's great to get young people and write more.

I think it is important to show young people that writing can be so heavenly, it does not have to be the sterile essay that is to be corrected with a red pencil - but you can write about things you like, says Clara Henry.
