- Making meadows is a way of making food for bees, which makes pollen and nectar.

Bee food is not available to the same extent today, so this is a way to contribute to the survival of pollinators, says Frida Gustafsson, environmental strategist at Borgholm municipality.

The municipality has found a couple of areas that are suitable for the meadow project, which is intended to continue for several years to come.

- It is not inside the city center itself, but in the urban area of Borgholm.

These are empty surfaces that are not used, such as by a cycle path, says Frida Gustafsson.

Bluebell and bridal bread

The meadows will not only provide food for the pollinators, but they will also bloom beautifully for the people of Borgholm all summer.

- We are investing in a meadow mixture for calcareous soil, it is a dry meadow.

We will, among other things, sow bluebell, bridal bread, St. John's wort and daisy, says Frida Gustafsson.

Elin Boberg from the County Administrative Board in Kalmar County and Frida Gustafsson from Borgholm Municipality are planting flowering plants in the area that will become a 60,000 square meter bi-paradise.

Next summer, the air here will be filled with the buzz of bees and other insects, lured here by warm sand and flowering plants.
