Somalia's intelligence service announced that Al-Shabab is working to target the country's president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, and his prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Robley.

"We have informed key government officials of a plot in which the youth mafia wants to target the president and prime minister," said a statement published by the intelligence service on its Twitter account on Monday evening.

The statement indicated that the senior leader of the youth movement, Muhammad Maher, is managing the implementation of this operation, without mentioning details about that operation.

Al-Shabab has carried out several bombings in the past weeks, the most recent of which was the suicide bombing that killed former parliamentarian Amna Muhammad Abdi, a candidate for the current parliamentary elections, along with about 50 others, including civilians and soldiers.

Somalia has been waging a war for years against the Al-Shabab movement, which was founded in early 2004, announced its association with Al-Qaeda, and adopted several operations that killed hundreds.
