Östergötland was divided into a northern and a southern hunting area with Motala stream as the border.

In the northern area, two animals remained when March ended.

- The next felled only males so I do not think this year's hunting will affect future hunting so much, says Fredrik Näsman, game manager at the county administrative board.

Six males, a female and a yearling were killed this year.

- There have not been optimal conditions for tracking because there was no fresh snow.

And in some places the crowd on the old snow was too sharp to let go of dogs.

Controversial hunting

It is the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency that decides during which times of the year the hunt may be conducted.

In southern Sweden, it is then March that applies.

The number of lynx that may be killed is based on inventories and that researchers make calculations on what is considered reasonable.

Some disapprove of the hunt for lynx and among others the Predator Association calls it "trophy hunting".

Do you have any understanding of the criticism?

- Yes, you are allowed to have that when it comes to hunting large predators.

I do not want to comment on how the hunt will be in the future.

It is an election year and in the end it is a political decision, and a lot can happen in one year.
