On Tuesday evening, the Israeli occupation forces assaulted, for the fourth consecutive day, Palestinians in the Bab Al-Amoud area - one of the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque - and arrested 6 of them.

The official Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) said that the occupation forces beat and pushed the Palestinians, and chased them to Wadi Al-Joz, near the center of occupied Jerusalem.

She added that the Israeli forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets at the youths, but no injuries were reported.

According to Jerusalem sources, the occupation forces arrested a child and 4 young men in the vicinity of Bab al-Amoud, while the sixth was arrested in the Yusufiya area.

For its part, the official Israeli channel, Kan, said that the police "arrested 3 suspects during a riot at Damascus Gate."

Thus, the number of Palestinian detainees in Bab al-Amud since the beginning of Ramadan has risen to 32, including 11 children.

Since the beginning of the month of Ramadan, the "Bab Al-Amoud" area has witnessed great tension, amid attempts by the Israeli police forces to prevent the gathering of Palestinian youths in the place.

Usually, the Palestinians congregate heavily in the area during the month of Ramadan, which prompts the Israeli police to disperse them, which creates a tense atmosphere in the Holy City.

Civil Procedures

In turn, the occupation authorities announced what they called "a series of civil steps for the Palestinians" on the occasion of the month of Ramadan.

This came at the end of a security assessment conducted on Tuesday by Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz, with the participation of Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi and Chief of Operations Oded Basyok, according to a statement by the Coordinator of Israeli Government Activities in the Palestinian Territories, Ghassan Alyan.

Gantz decided that Palestinians would enter the Temple Mount to perform prayers, including Friday prayers, provided that the men (40-50 years old) obtained a valid permit from the Israeli army.

Meanwhile, men over the age of 50 will not need a security clearance, according to the same source.

It will also allow women and children under 12 years of age to enter the Temple Mount without the need for a permit.

It was decided to allow West Bank residents to conduct family visits to first-degree relatives within the Green Line (Land 48) from Sundays until Thursdays.

Palestinians say that these steps practically do not entail any facilitation, but in fact represent a tightening of the restrictions imposed on entering the Temple Mount.

They assured Anadolu Agency that in the months of Ramadan before Corona, Palestinians of 40 years and over were allowed to enter without security permits.

They added that in Ramadan before the pandemic, residents of the Gaza Strip were allowed to come for Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa by private buses, which is no longer allowed this year.

And last year, in the month of Ramadan, Jerusalem witnessed escalating attacks by the Israeli police and settlers, especially in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Bab Al-Amud and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, which resulted in the injury of hundreds of Palestinians, including critical cases, and the arrest of dozens.

Those attacks resulted in a military battle between Israel and the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip between May 10 and 21, 2021, which led to the death and injury of hundreds of Palestinians, while the factions responded by firing thousands of missiles towards Israeli cities.
