The EU's recent sanctions decisions alone will not persuade Putin to order his army to withdraw from Ukraine.

They must be flanked by increased military pressure on the invaders.

However, the portable weapons and tactics used by the Ukrainians to halt the Russian advance are not enough.

Occupied territories and besieged cities like Mariupol cannot be liberated by shock troops, however brave the Ukrainian soldiers may be.

The concentrated Russian military power could only be pushed onto the defensive with large-scale operations.

For this you need main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored artillery.

An obstacle in the minds of politicians

There are several different calibers than bazookas.

Especially when it comes to armored units, the Bundeswehr is pretty much left out as a possible supplier.

Even a vintage car like the "Marder" is not a weapon system that you can master after three driving hours.

And then there is also an obstacle in the minds of politicians that needs to be overcome: the pre-war belief that Kyiv should at best be given “defensive weapons” (so that Moscow does not feel provoked).

But if you really want to help the Ukrainians stop Putin's butchery troops and drive them out of the country, you must now supply them with weapons with which they can go on the offensive.
