About twenty firefighters intervened this Monday at the beginning of the afternoon in Annemasse (Haute-Savoie).

They had been called after a gas leak was spotted on a city street.

The incident was caused by work during which a pipe was involuntarily pierced, says France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

The potentially dangerous leak occurred around 2:10 p.m.

A joint operation by GRDF and firefighters

It also resulted in the evacuation of 30 people present around the site.

Residents had to leave the area to be brought to safety while firefighters and agents from Gaz Réseau Distribution France (GRDF) intervened.

They finally managed to stop the gas leak.

The firefighters dispatched to the scene belong to several different barracks in the department.
