A teacher named Inmyeonsusim, who raped 13 underage girls at an Indonesian Islamic boarding school and impregnated 8 of them, was sentenced to death by an appeals court.

According to Compass and others on the 5th, the High Court of Bandung, West Java, delivered a death sentence in the appeal of Heri Wirawan (36), a teacher and foundation manager of an Islamic boarding school, charged with sexual assault of a minor.

From 2016 to the end of last year, Harry was charged with the habit of sexually assaulting 13 girls, aged 16 to 17, whom she taught.

Eight of the victims gave birth to nine children, and prosecutors said there are still victims who are pregnant.

Harry, who taught a religious course, received donations from the community by deceiving the children of rape victims as 'orphans'.

Prosecutors initially asked for the death penalty and chemical castration (medication to suppress sexual impulses).

The first instance court sentenced her to life in prison, dismissing that the sentence could not be sentenced on Harry because chemical castration was enforceable after serving the sentence.

The prosecution appealed again to sentence her to death, and the Court of Appeal upheld the prosecution's hand.

Indonesia's death row is estimated at over 500.

Indonesia executed 18 drug offenders, including foreigners, in 2015 and 2016, and has not carried out a sentence for six years.

Indonesian authorities have announced a 'resumption of executions' policy in the second half of 2019, and the executions have not resumed so far, although death row inmates are trembling.

With this sexual assault incident as an opportunity, the authorities have stepped up the management and supervision of more than 25,000 Muslim boarding schools 'pesantren' operating throughout Indonesia.

About 5 million students enrolled in Psantren take regular classes during the day and continue studying the Qur'an, the Islamic scripture, into the evening.

Last year, there were 14 cases of sexual abuse in Psantren alone.
