Sörmland is one of the regions that tested the largest proportion of inhabitants for covid-19.

Östergötland is the region that has tested the least.

It shows a compilation that SVT's local newsrooms have done together with Assignment review with the help of data from the Public Health Agency.

Sörmland has had a more generous test policy than Östergötland, which periodically also had major capacity problems with its testing.

This meant that Östergötland went to Sörmland to test themselves.

The infection control doctor: "Not entirely successful"

From week 20 2020 to the end of 2021, an average of almost 1.6 tests were performed per inhabitant in Sörmland, but only 0.9 tests per inhabitant in Östergötland.

During that period, just over 2,000 East Goths chose to test themselves in the neighboring county in the north instead, according to figures from the Sörmland region.

The fact that different regions had different rules meant that certain regions received a heavier load.

Most Stockholmers went to Sörmland, but also East Goths.

- It affected our capacity periodically.

So I can say that from the aspect that it was not completely successful, says Signar Mäkitalo, who is an infection control doctor in Sörmland.

In the clip above, Östergötland's infection control doctor Britt Åkerlind is asked by Uppdrag Granskning's reporter about the county's testing strategy.
