Canadian police announced on Sunday the murder of the son of a woman whose dismembered body was discovered in a plastic bag on a Toronto sidewalk this week.

Authorities had released a photo of the victim's very peculiar nail polish asking for the public's help in identifying him, then later issued a public appeal to locate the son.

A passerby found the body on Monday March 28.

According to the police, the corpse had undergone mutilations, “in particular dismemberments”.

The victim was identified as Tien Ly, 46, a manicurist who local media said had recently opened her own salon in the upscale Yorkville shopping district.

After searching her apartment, which she shared with her son Dallas Ly, 20, police began searching for him and expressed "concern for his well-being".

He was located and arrested on Saturday.

Investigators charged him on Sunday with being responsible for his mother's death and charged him with second-degree murder.
