• A corpse raising its hand, while another rises after passing vehicles: these are the allegations made by Internet users about a video showing bodies along a road in Boutcha, Ukraine.

  • It is actually a drop of water, on the windshield of a car, which passes over one of the bodies on the ground.

As for the man who would get up, he is seen in a windshield, which deforms the pavement against which this body rests.

  • Other photos or videos show these two motionless bodies, in the same position.

Corpses that would ultimately not be.

Based on a video broadcast by a Ukrainian media, many Internet users have been questioning since Sunday the images coming from the Ukrainian city of Boutcha, after the discovery, in recent days, of bodies in the streets of this suburban city. from Kyiv.

In this sequence of about twenty seconds, a person drives in a street of Boutcha.

Bodies are visible on either side of the road.

The vehicle is preceded by a pick-up in which there are men in uniform.

According to allegations circulating on social media, one of the bodies, visible through the windshield of a vehicle, raised his hand, while another, visible in a rear-view mirror, stood up after the vehicle passed.

These accusations were also relayed by the Russian Ministry of Defense on Telegram, which reposted a post from a channel called “The war against fakes”.

FAKE OFF

The 20-second footage comes from a longer video released on April 2 by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

The footage was filmed inside a vehicle.

At the tenth second, the vehicle approaches a person lying with his back to the ground, across the road.

Internet users claim that this person “raises his hand”, playing the video in slow motion, because a white shape briefly appears on the body at the level of an arm when the vehicle approaches.

Looking at the images shot by shot, we realize that this shape, which is superimposed on the body, is due to a drop of water or a stain on the windshield.

The white form moves on the body, until passing it slightly, without the man moving.

At 18 and 19 seconds into the video, a white shape also appears in the same area, with no people lying on the road.

According to the Meteoblue website, it rained in Boutcha in early April.

The Aurora Intel Collective also broke down the images, showing the water drop on the windshield:

Getting fed up of this “it's a moving arm” bullsh….. it's a raindrop on the windscreen, alongside an inverted channel version for more clarity.

The whole arm moving thing is just ridiculous.

The edge of the sidewalk curves

At the 45th second, the vehicle passed another person lying on the road.

She lies on her right side, legs bent, one arm in front of her face.

Internet users then accuse him of getting up, while the body is visible for two seconds in the rear view mirror of the vehicle, which is driving away from him.

Passing the sequence image by image, we see that the edge of the sidewalk curves, suggesting an optical effect introduced by the rear view mirror, while the convoy is traveling along a straight road.

In addition, photos taken by an AFP journalist on April 3, the day after the video was published, show these two bodies in the same position as they are seen in the video.

The German newspaper

Bild

also published a video on Monday, where we see the second man lying in the same place as when he was filmed by the Ukrainian convoy.

The video released by the Ukrainian ministry was filmed on Yablunska Street, in Boutcha, between numbers 344 and 362, as indicated on Twitter by the GeoConfirmed collective.

The house visible on the right, two seconds away, is recognizable on Google Maps, as well as the one painted yellow (it was painted white when it was photographed by Google Maps), visible at the ninth second of the video.

The remains of 410 civilians were found in Boutcha and other territories in the region recently recaptured from Russian troops, according to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Iryna Venediktova, quoted by AFP.

Antonio Guterres, the UN secretary general, called on Sunday for the establishment of an independent investigation.

Through the voice of Dmitri Peskov, its spokesman, the Kremlin “categorically rejected all accusations” and called for a meeting of the UN Security Council on Boutcha.
