Assignment review has compiled data from the Swedish intensive care registry, SIR, and compared the survival of covid patients in Sweden's 21 regions.

And the difference is big.

In Jönköping, which has the lowest mortality rate, one in nine has died of covid-IVA.

In Skåne and Västernorrland, almost every third inpatient has died.

Peter Nordlund, member of the Swedish Intensive Care Register's board and iva doctor in Jönköping, thinks the differences are serious.

- This suggests that there is something that differs in care between the regions.

Increased rent dependence

In Jönköping, the continuity among the staff and security in the role as a success factor are emphasized.

In Sundsvall, there has been an increasing proportion of rental staff at IVA during the pandemic.

- It has been crucial for us to be able to provide care at all.

But if you have a well-established working group, it gives better care results in general, but to what extent I do not want to speculate, says Tobias Bergman and develops his answer in the video.

Statistics that we requested from the region show that the costs for hired nurses at IVA in Sundsvall have increased sharply.

From just over SEK 2 million in 2020 to SEK 7 million until 1/10 2021.

Clear difference in the country

In Region Västernorrland, they believe that it is difficult to draw any conclusions and refer to what the Swedish Intensive Care Registry has said about the variations in mortality in the country.

- Even if you see a clear variation, it is not possible to say that there are differences in medical quality.

But is it possible to rule out that what has been done in healthcare has made a difference?

- No, a lot has happened and treatment recommendations have come and gone, but the data is very scattered.

Higher mortality among the population

Tobias Bergman is also the medical manager at the intensive care unit in Sundsvall and he also highlights the fact that the general mortality per 100,000 inhabitants is high in the county compared to other counties.

- If you have an increased burden of illness in a region, the burden in healthcare will also be higher.
