The discount of 18 euro cents per liter of fuel, which has applied in mainland France since last Friday, is not enough to cope with the increase in petrol prices.

Some French people no longer do their shopping in the same way.

If they spend as much overall, they go to the supermarket less often.

Example at Pellerin, a small town south of Nantes.

Checkout, cart pushed to the car and race stored in the trunk, this ritual, Pascale has seriously reduced the frequency.

"I make a shopping list, I try to prepare my menus in advance. And then, I only come once a week. Before, I came every other day. Sometimes, every day", says- she.

Limit your movements

There will be no risk of shortage except in the event of over-stocking, warns Michel-Edouard Leclerc.

But in some towns such as Pellerin, south of Nantes, customers only go shopping once a month to limit trips, this time because of fuel prices, and therefore store in larger quantities at them.

In question, the soaring price of fuel, which limits travel.

Not without regret for this sexagenarian.

"Because it made me go out, I did my little tour in the store, I liked it," she says.

"I'm five, six minutes away by car, but hey, gasoline consumes, so we're careful."

Suddenly, when it comes out of the supermarket, the addition is not quite the same as before: "It's 150-160 euros."

In March, food prices saw their prices increase by 2.8% and they could even reach 8% at the end of June according to the boss of Lidl, a rise in prices aggravated by the war in Ukraine.

With customers now as concerned about their fuel gauge as their receipt, Sébastien Courtois had to adapt so as not to see his Intermarché empty.

Discount voucher, home delivery...

The manager has launched specials and it works.

"As of this weekend, we initiated a voucher of 5 euros on Drives which were higher than 70 euros and we had a doubling of our Drive orders from Friday. It shows that these actions improve the power purchases of our customers," he says.

From this Monday, this supermarket will also offer, for 9 euros, a home delivery service.

"Better than nothing !"

concludes Pascale.
