"Robin Renucci will take office on July 1, 2022," it said in a statement.

He will replace the director Macha Makeïeff, in office since 2011. Robin Renucci wants in particular to address "the widest audience, especially young people, so that the theater is a popular tool for individual and collective elevation", according to his Press service.

"It's a good choice for Marseille, for the Criée. It was the one that carried the best project: to broaden the social and popular base of the public of the Criée and to work with the artists and the cultural places of Marseille", commented with AFP Jean-Marc Coppola, Deputy Mayor of Marseille in charge of Culture.

Mr. Coppola thinks that the new director "will make Marseille's openness to the Mediterranean shine even more (and) an elitist but popular culture with an anchorage in Marseille".

Robin Renucci has played in the theater under the direction, among others, of illustrious directors such as Marcel Bluwal, Roger Planchon, Patrice Chéreau and Antoine Vitez.

In the cinema, he toured with Michel Deville, Jean-Pierre Mocky and Claude Chabrol.

Among his notable roles on television, he donned the clothes of a country doctor in the series "A French village".

He is also a professor at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art.

He will still be director of the National Dramatic Center Les Tréteaux de France, which has the particularity of being itinerant, until July 2022.
