The French Prosecutor's Office announced this Friday an investigation for

"involuntary manslaughter", "falsehood" and "endangering third parties"

after two children died of poisoning from hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) related to the ingestion of

Fraîch'Up pizzas of the Italian brand Buitoni.

The Prosecutor's Office indicated that the investigations will be carried out by the public health unit of the Prosecutor's Office itself.

According to the latest data communicated by the health authorities, corresponding to March 28, there were 75 cases of

HUS in metropolitan France in children under 18 years

of age with an average age of seven years, of which two have died.

The pizzas would be

contaminated by Escherichia coli bacteria

, producers of Shiga toxins that can cause abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting.

The health authorities recommended that people who have frozen pizzas in their freezer "that have been separated from their box, and whose range and brand cannot be identified or clearly known, do

not consume them and destroy them

".

The company began to withdraw on

March 18 all the pizzas in this range

marketed since June 2021.

However, the authorities ask consumers that if they find that Buitoni's Fraîch'Up pizzas are still being sold, they should

report it on the SignalConso platform

.

Its statement insisted on the importance of

visiting a doctor after consuming the withdrawn product

if within 10 days people have diarrhea, abdominal pain or vomiting, or if within 15 days they have signs of great fatigue, paleness or decreased of urine volume, which darkens.
