On March 31, 2022, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi chaired the 3rd Afghan Neighboring Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the first Foreign Ministers' Dialogue between Afghanistan's Neighboring Countries and the Afghan Interim Government in Tunxi, Anhui.

After the meeting, Wang Yi held a press conference to introduce the important consensus and outcomes of the meeting and answer questions from reporters.

In response to a reporter's question about what role China plays on the Ukraine issue, Wang Yi said that in the past few days, I have had intensive and in-depth exchanges with foreign ministers of various countries on the Ukraine issue.

All parties expressed their understanding of China's position and made positive comments on China's role.

Our position is consistent. In dealing with all hotspots, China stands on the side of peace, on the side of dialogue, and on the side of justice.

Our attitude is also clear. In response to all challenges, China will strive to play a responsible and constructive role.

Wang Yi said that since the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, China has been based on right and wrong, adheres to independence and abides by objectivity and fairness.

President Xi Jinping put forward the "four musts", which clearly clarified China's authoritative proposition on the Ukraine issue.

The Chinese side has successively put forward a five-point position and a six-point proposal to alleviate the humanitarian crisis, which has made a Chinese voice and contributed Chinese wisdom to defuse the crisis and ease the situation.

China's role is mainly reflected in five insistences.

First, insist on persuading peace and promoting talks in the right direction.

We stand for dialogue and negotiation as the only way out, oppose adding fuel to the fire and intensifying confrontation, call for a ceasefire and stop the war, and support direct dialogue between Russia and Ukraine.

The second is to uphold the basic norms of international relations.

We advocate respect for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, and oppose pushing small and medium-sized countries to the forefront of geopolitical games.

The third is to insist on preventing the resurgence of the Cold War mentality.

We do not agree with the camp confrontation that is either an enemy or a friend. We firmly promote international solidarity, advocate a common, cooperative, comprehensive and sustainable security concept, and respect and accommodate the legitimate and reasonable concerns of all parties.

Fourth, insist on safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of all countries.

We oppose unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law, and call for the maintenance of international industrial and supply chains to avoid harming normal economic and trade exchanges and people's lives.

Fifth, insist on consolidating peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific.

We firmly adhere to the diplomatic policy of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness to our neighbors, and we are vigilant against the United States using the "Indo-Pacific Strategy" to introduce groups in the region to fight against disasters, accelerate the promotion of regional integration and cooperation, and safeguard the hard-won development momentum of the region.

Wang Yi stressed that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will continue to work with the international community to continue to play a constructive role in persuading peace and promoting talks and maintaining peace in accordance with the wishes of the parties concerned and considering the needs of the development of the situation.
