Tunisia will not hold legislative elections within three months, Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed said late Thursday (March 31) during a meeting with Prime Minister Najla Bouden, according to a post on the Tunisia's Facebook account. Tunisian presidency.

Kaïs Saïed on Wednesday dissolved Parliament, suspended since last summer, after elected officials met virtually to vote against measures decided last year by the Head of State.

The Free Destourian Party (PDL), an opposition party which according to polls would have a majority in Parliament if elections were held, urged Kais Saïed to call early elections after the dissolution of Parliament.

Abir Moussi, president of the PDL and supporter of former president Zine el Abidine Ben Ali, considered that Kaïs Saïed had no other choice, according to the Constitution, and should call elections within three months.

The Tunisian president has previously indicated that he will form a committee to work on a new constitution, which he will submit to a referendum in July before organizing legislative elections in December.
