No more warm meals on the terrace in the middle of December!

From this Friday, heated terraces are prohibited, according to a decree published in the Official Journal.

This measure provided for by the Climate and Resilience Law was to apply at the end of winter 2021. It has been postponed so as not to further weaken the cafes, bars and restaurants in tension during the health crisis.

Considered too harmful for the environment, outdoor heating devices can no longer be used.

Some municipalities had already banned them locally, such as Rennes, which was the first metropolis to ban them at the start of 2020. From now on, recalcitrants risk up to 1,500 euros in fines, and 3,000 in the event of a repeat offense.

The decree specifies that certain places are exceptions and can continue to accommodate a heating system.

This concerns "covered, airtight places closed by rigid side walls" as well as "mobile, covered and closed installations hosting fairground or circus activities or hosting cultural, sporting, festive, religious or political events". , he says.
