The Arab Parliament calls for a comprehensive developmental confrontation with terrorism

Deputy Speaker of the Arab Parliament - Member of the Federal National Council, Muhammad Ahmed Al-Yamahi - stressed the importance of the role that parliaments play, at their national, regional and international levels, to combat terrorism and extremist ideology, calling in the same framework for the need for a comprehensive developmental confrontation of this phenomenon, so that poverty does not provide an environment fertile areas exploited by terrorist organizations, to recruit and attract more terrorists, as well as exchanging experiences and best practices with regard to legislation and strategies for combating terrorism and preventing extremist ideology, and cooperating to bridge existing gaps in counter-terrorism legislation at the national and regional levels.

This came during his participation as a representative of the Arab Parliament in an international conference entitled "Understanding the Terrorist Threat in Africa: New Challenges and Necessary Measures", organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in partnership with the African Parliamentary Union and the Shura Council of the State of Qatar in the Qatari capital, Doha.

Al-Yamahi explained that understanding all the dimensions of the phenomenon of terrorism in Africa, and searching for measures to address it, is the way to ensure the achievement of human security in its comprehensive concept, and to achieve development and prosperity within the societies of this continent.

Al-Yamahi said that the Arab Parliament has recently paid special attention to the African Sahel region, which is one of the most important regions in the African continent, especially as it includes the most dangerous terrorist organizations around the world. The First Parliamentary Counter-Terrorism Conference was held in Vienna, in partnership between the Arab Parliament, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Mediterranean Parliament, and the Parliamentary Committee of the G5 Sahel.

Al-Yamahi pointed to the danger of terrorist organizations in this vital region, as they are still able to launch terrorist attacks, and attract more local elements to join them, in addition to their success in forming alliances among them, in a way that enables them to escalate their terrorist operations on a wider geographical scale.
