The ambulance in Vittangi had 24-hour operations seven days a week before it switched to daytime staffing in the summer of 2016.

The issue was raised in Assignment Review and was brought to attention after the Healthcare Party's Kenneth Backgård, twelve minutes after the interview, fulfilled his own, hitherto, dormant election promise.

In a text message to UG, Backgård wrote that a decision would be made about the operation before the turn of the year and that the ambulance should be in place before the end of April 2022.

- We agree with the regional board and all parties agree with it, Backgård says to SVT.

The staff doubts

But there are those who doubt that the region's schedule holds.

- No I do not think so.

There are no staff for it within the existing operations in Kiruna and there are no staff to hire, says Lars-Åke Mukka, ambulance paramedic in Kiruna who believes that it is much further away in time:

- I think it is reasonable for the autumn.

Thinking about rental staff

Regional Councilor Kenneth Backgård says that they are looking at other solutions if the recruitment process drags on.

- If it is not possible to hire, the alternative is to hire staff via staffing companies.

That's how it usually goes, he says.

The activities will be coordinated from Kiruna and it involves 4-5 people who will be employed.

The cost is budgeted at almost SEK 10 million.
