Motorhomes, quads, construction machinery, cars… Six people from the Traveler community suspected of having committed around sixty thefts in eastern France, in particular of cars and construction machinery, were arrested Tuesday during an operation which mobilized no less than 180 gendarmes, announced Wednesday the parquet floor of Verdun (Meuse).

The arrests took place in "three camps", in Jezainville (Meurthe-et-Moselle), Sedan (Ardennes) and Augny (Moselle), said in a press release Sophie Partouche, the public prosecutor of Verdun, where is instructed the folder.

According to the elements of the investigation, the thefts were mainly committed in the Grand-Est, but also in neighboring Burgundy Franche-Comté, in the department of Côte-d'Or.

During the searches, “five vans, a motorhome, a caravan (…), an excavator, a dump truck equipped with a crane, three dumpsters (…), a crane, a quad” and “engines and mechanical parts , all stolen”, were notably seized.

On the other hand, five thousand euros in cash, "telephone jammers", "blank vehicle starter cards", about sixty weapons, including "shotguns", "rifles" as well as eight weapons fist, (44 magnum and a 357 magnum) were also seized, further specifies the prosecution.

Fifty kilograms of cartridges were also discovered, as well as "cannabis plants in a home grown room", he continues.

The suspects, "already known", are between 19 and 22 years old for five of them, according to the press release.

The sixth was born “in 1972”.

Placed in police custody at the research brigade of the Verdun gendarmerie company, they should soon be presented to an examining magistrate with a view to their indictment, according to the same source.
