• Three departments of Hauts-de-France are placed in orange snow-ice vigilance.

  • Up to more than 10 cm of snow are expected in places overnight from Thursday to Friday.

  • Interurban and school transport are suspended, traffic restrictions for heavy goods vehicles have been decreed.

A snowy episode is expected in part of Hauts-de-France overnight from Thursday to Friday.

The departments of the Somme, Nord and Pas-de-Calais will also be placed in orange snow-ice vigilance from Thursday midnight, until Friday 2 p.m.

In places, the layer of powder could exceed 10 cm, especially in Pas-de-Calais.

What largely disrupt traffic on the roads Friday morning.

In order to anticipate, the Hauts-de-France regional council announced that school and intercity transport buses would not run in the Somme and Pas-de-Calais and partly in the North (Flanders and Pévèle).

This measure is valid until the end of vigilance.

Traffic restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

The prefectures of the departments concerned have also issued orders aimed at limiting the circulation of heavy goods vehicles.

On the entire road network, the speed of trucks over 3.5 tonnes is limited to 80 km/h and overtaking is prohibited.

In Pas-de-Calais only, vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will not be able to circulate between midnight, Thursday, and 2 p.m. Friday.

For light vehicles, speeds are reduced by 20 km/h on expressways and motorways.

In the Lille metropolitan area, the Ilévia network will try to maintain its transport offer by taking exceptional measures.

Trams and metros will run empty all night to prevent snow and ice from sticking to switches and catenaries.

For the buses, teams will check the practicability of the routes before the start of operation.

The teams of the departments and the metropolis will try to salt the road network as widely as possible.

Nevertheless, the regional prefecture encourages residents to postpone their trips as much as possible.

Otherwise, it is recommended to take the main roads and adapt your speed.
