Of the total sum, approximately SEK 6 million will be used to build up a war organization and strengthen security protection.

Ten million is proposed to be invested in the city's infrastructure in emergency storage, reserve power and other areas of social importance.

- Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine has totally changed the security policy situation in Sweden and it of course also affects us in Helsingborg.

Therefore, we need to greatly increase the pace of work to strengthen civil defense, says Peter Danielsson, chairman of the municipal board in Helsingborg (M) in a press release.

Electricity supply reviewed

Opposition councilor Jan Björklund (S) agrees.

- What is happening in Europe and in our vicinity shows that we need to strengthen civil defense and increase preparedness.

It is about reviewing storage, for example, and ensuring that we have energy so we do not run out of electricity in our nursing homes or hospitals, says Jan Björklund.

- It is also connected with the pandemic that we must be prepared for crises and the unexpected that happens.

It is the city management administration that has been commissioned to produce the proposal and it will be discussed in the municipal board next week
