The southwestern region of Bahate is close to the Romanian border and has so far been spared from Russian forces.

Last year, farmer Alexander Petkov's business produced 30,000 tonnes of barley groats, 27,000 tonnes of wheat and 5,000 tonnes of sunflower seeds there.

But now the crops remain in large piles and the fuel for the machines is about to run out.

"All ports are closed due to the presence of Russian warships in the Black Sea," says Petkov.

Large parts of the country's fuel and oil have previously been imported from Russia and Belarus, but this has now completely ceased.

UN warns: 125 million people could be left without food

Although Ukraine claims to have food reserves to survive for up to a year, Russia's invasion is affecting other countries that depend on the country's exports.

Half of the cereals purchased by the UN food program come from Ukraine, and now they warn that the halted exports could cause a global food shortage affecting up to 125 million people.

- We have not seen anything like this since World War II, says David Beasly, who is head of the UN's food program.
