No new shelters in Sweden in 20 years: "Zero kronor for that item"

- MSB has continued the assignment from the government, but we have zero kronor for that item.

This means that we have no assignment to build shelters, says Anders Johannesson, unit manager at MSB.

New hospital will be without shelter

The Kronoberg region has decided to build a new emergency hospital for almost SEK 8 billion, in Räppe outside Växjö.

The region has asked the MSB about shelters, but received the answer that nothing should be built.  

The need for shelters is being investigated 

The government has now appointed an external investigator to find out if new shelters are needed.

It should be ready on November 7 this year, so even if it were to come to the conclusion that new shelters would be needed in some areas, it seems to be too late for the new emergency hospital in Växjö. 

- A shelter must be involved from the start in the planning process and construction process, Anders Johannesson explains. 

However, there is a small chance that a shelter could be built afterwards.
