5 dead, including a police officer, in an armed attack near Tel Aviv

Israeli medics announced on Tuesday that five people, including a police officer, were killed in gun attacks in two different locations near Tel Aviv.

Police said the shooting appeared to have occurred by a gunman riding a motorbike.

"Unfortunately, we have counted five dead" in an attack, the third in Israel in a week, said Eli Benn, head of the Israeli ambulance service.

In a statement, the police indicated that there was "a suspicion of a terrorist act in Bnei Brak."

She added: "It appears from the initial investigation that a terrorist shot civilians on Hashnaim Street in the city of Bnei Brak and critically wounded several civilians. From there he moved to Herzl Street and shot other citizens. A police force neutralized him."

She also said that she had "received a report of a shooting on Bialik Street in the Ramat Gan suburb" and that its forces were deployed in the place.

The new attack raised fears of the possibility of more violence.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the shooting.

The new attack comes two days after two Border Police officers were killed and three others were wounded, in an attack in the Hadera area, about 50 kilometers north of Tel Aviv.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the incident, and said in a statement published by its propaganda agency, Amaq, "At least two members of the Jewish police were killed and others were wounded, in a double immersion attack."

Tuesday's incidents, too, came days after a man stabbed several people and ran over another in southern Israel, killing four, in one of the country's deadliest attacks in recent years.

Authorities said the attacker had previously been accused of supporting Islamic State.
