Qatar and Egypt announced - in a joint statement - their decision to form a joint committee headed by the foreign ministers of the two countries, with the aim of continuous consultation and strengthening cooperation and coordination in all fields.

The announcement came during a meeting held on Monday in Cairo between Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

The meeting dealt with discussing relations between the two countries, and the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between them in various fields.

The two sides praised the work of the members of the joint bilateral committees emanating from the Al-Ula statement, and their completion of their work, through which a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed, and consensus was reached on the topics on their agendas, in a manner that serves the interests of the two countries and peoples.

The Egyptian and Qatari sides valued the level of relations between the two countries, their "return to their normal state and their solid origin."

On January 20, 2021, Cairo and Doha signed two official memoranda, agreeing to restore diplomatic relations cut between them since 2017.

On January 18 of last year, direct flights between Egypt and Qatar resumed, in implementation of the reconciliation agreement concluded at the Al-Ula summit held in Saudi Arabia on January 5, 2021, and Egypt also reopened its airspace to Qatar on the 12th of this month. .

The Egyptian-Qatari relations witnessed successive positive steps after the Al-Ula summit. The steps to improve relations included the exchange of visits between the two countries’ foreign ministers, holding meetings of the Qatari-Egyptian Follow-up Committee, as well as mutual invitations to the leaders of the two countries to visit.
