Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Sabah confirmed in a press statement that Iran is not a party to the Al-Durra natural gas field because it is "a purely Kuwaiti-Saudi field," after Iran considered that the agreement between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to develop the field was illegal.

Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Sabah pointed out that Kuwait and Saudi Arabia alone have exclusive rights to exploit and invest in this field, in accordance with the agreements concluded between the two countries.

The Kuwaiti foreign minister explained that what he mentioned during the press conference with his French counterpart regarding the Dorra field is the continental shelf negotiations, as they are Kuwaiti-Saudi-Iranian tripartite negotiations to demarcate the borders of the continental shelf between the three countries.

Last Saturday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry objected to the agreement to develop the Dorra field between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and considered the agreement an illegal step, and said that it reserves the right to exploit it.

Kuwait had previously signed a document with Saudi Arabia to develop the Dorra field, which is expected to produce one billion standard cubic feet per day of gas and 84,000 barrels per day of condensate, according to a statement issued last week by the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
