On a walk near the dam of a mill in the town of barely 3,000 souls, the 81-year-old man fished out the snake, warned the gendarmerie (who did not come), then the firefighters.
The latter would have advised walkers to put it back in the water.
The inhabitants complied, in particular because of the nauseating odor emanating from the corpse.
