This Tuesday, five years in prison, including three suspended, were required against the driver of the truck Mathieu Saurel, now 29 years old.

He has been on trial since Monday before the La Rochelle Criminal Court for "homicides and unintentional injuries" after the accident of February 11, 2016 which claimed the lives of six teenagers who were traveling on board a school bus.

The side panel of the truck was open when he passed the school bus, which was ripped open by the impact.

“He is not a murderer”

Before the La Rochelle Criminal Court, the prosecutor Clément Incerti asked for the strongest sentence, accompanied by a suspended sentence, thus allowing the defendant to request a sentence adjustment for the two years firm, in order to "take into account his personality ".

“He is responsible for a very serious accident, he is not murderous”, justified the prosecutor.

He is judged alone, without his ex-employer Eiffage, indicted at the end of 2020, but who benefited from a dismissal confirmed on appeal in February, to the chagrin of certain civil parties.
