Attack on a train in Nigeria.. A number of passengers were killed and others were kidnapped

Heavily armed people attacked a train carrying hundreds of passengers in northern Nigeria late Monday.

The Commissioner of Internal Security of Kaduna State, Samuel Arwan, said today, Tuesday, that the attackers damaged the tracks with explosives, before shooting at the train, which was on its way from the Nigerian capital, Abuja, to the city of Kaduna, the capital of the state, northwest of the country.

He explained that the attack resulted in an unknown number of dead and wounded.

According to local media reports, some passengers were kidnapped from the site.

The government has launched a search and rescue operation, Arwan said, adding that train services on the line have been temporarily suspended.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
