The resignation of a Podemos deputy reveals the division of the parliamentary group and the discomfort with Echenique
Politics Podemos expels the Minister of Equality in the Government of La Rioja from the party
Nerves.
Uncertainty.
United We Can is waiting very long for Yolanda Díaz and the launch of her political project and that has many sectors of this political space, especially in Podemos, plunged into unrest and internal movements to strengthen positions before the new stage that should open.
In this sense, several people from the party contextualize the recent march of the Canarian deputy
Meri Pita
to
the Mixed Group
of Congress as a first drastic move in that scenario, since the vice president lacks a network of territorial support on which to build a project and the different actors want to take a «good position».
Pita could now embark on a recently created party, called
Reunir
and which was registered by a historical collaborator of hers in the
Canary Islands
, to later offer herself as a landing platform on the islands.
Yolanda Díaz does have trustworthy people in
Galicia
, where she has had an important political career and knows many people, but she does not have them in other parts of the country, where she would need people and teams to support her.
Who will they be?
Therein lies the key.
In addition, there is another very important element in the background.
The time that Díaz is supposed to build a hypothetical candidacy for the general elections - a priori at the end of
2023
- they do not have in the autonomous communities, where within a year, at this point, the foundations have to be on track - and almost also the electoral lists - to address the great challenge of the regional and municipal elections in May.
The recent elections in
Castilla y León
have been an important warning in this regard, since they have shown how worn out the electoral brand of United We Can is and the problems that they may face if, as happened then and could also happen in
Andalusia
, there is no express protagonism of the vice president, who is the one with the greatest popular pull.
escalation of tension
Different sources consulted within United We Can agree on the hyperactivity of internal movements to position themselves.
In a large part they are fueled by the latent conflicts within Podemos at the regional level, but now there are also caused by the escalation of tension between the leadership of Podemos and Díaz and the risk that it could end in a rupture.
Ione Belarra
,
Irene Montero
and
Pablo Iglesias
They are pressing for Podemos to have a very relevant role in Díaz's so-called "broad front", and they demand that neither their influence nor the prominent presence of people they trust be diluted.
Those pressures are what explain the "hostilities" and the errands that Díaz has been suffering in recent times.
And as much as the vice president is trying to evade it, she knows it's a conflict that will haunt her to the end.
Saving the differences, we must remember as a precedent that the pressures on the weight that Podemos should have within
Now Madrid
led
Manuela Carmena
to break.
In this context, there is nervousness within United We Can because the Díaz project has not just started.
"The old acronyms do not finish closing and the new ones do not finish coming out", it is pointed out about a situation that "generates uncertainty".
There are those who admit that it would help if she sent "a clearer message" "as soon as possible", since everything that offers "certainty" will mean "minimizing" the conflicts that are being built and calming down many spirits.
Similarly, there are those who would like her to exercise that leadership with more "consistency," while at the same time lamenting that she is not helping them.
Díaz's "listening process" with civil society - the result of which will emerge if he finally stands for election - has suffered a new delay due to the war and the economic crisis that has been unleashed, and that has "very worried" and "focused" on the vice president.
That is why it has been decided to "paralyze" the tour from which it is hoped that a new "country project" can come out.
The idea was to start in April, but now he is conditioned to the evolution of the crisis and the effect of the measures taken by the Government.
However, Diaz's team continues to work on this.
On Thursday there was a meeting to think about and design aspects and Díaz has revealed that he wants to resume it "as soon as he can."
It is not ruled out that it will be May.
In any case, the message that he launches is that it will be done "slowly".
Díaz sets the "rhythms."
"The unity will be based on the common project and not on a sum of acronyms," they say, "the parties are important but they are not the protagonists, but the citizens."
