Houses full of lights

Samira Kilani, a researcher in home economics and author of the book "I Have an Idea," says, "The holy month of Ramadan, the thirty days distinguished by its exceptional spirituality and rituals, we eagerly await. A visitor fills us with benevolence, asceticism, loftiness and devotion...we prepare for it and we are glad for its coming."

Kilani added, "It is nice for our homes to be filled with cheerful lights and symbols of the crescent and stars in the month of goodness, as there are many of them spread in the markets, and there are some women who are keen to create art pieces for the month of goodness with their own hands."

Before the month of Ramadan, we allocate a corner for prayer, extend prayer rugs, and decorate the corners (pixels).

Corner of prayer and reading the Qur'an

Kilani says, the housewife can allocate corners for prayer, worship and reading the Noble Qur’an, the family participates in arranging and coordinating them, so we make a quiet corner in the heart of the house, we extend prayer rugs and decorate the corners with swimming pools.

She points out that the housewife keeps the decorations of the holy month in neat boxes that are protected from dust and dirt, to use them year after year, and add some frills to them, and perhaps she makes them with her own hands with the participation of her children, thus adding a distinctive, personal and spirit character to the corners, so that they become homes that resemble us and express our tastes.

Cleaning and preparing the house gradually

Kilani advises women not to postpone cleaning and preparing the house to receive the holy month only a day or two before its arrival. It is more appropriate and easier for her to clean the carpets, windows and rooms of the house gradually, for example by allocating a day for the windows, or cleaning a certain corner of the house or washing curtains, carpets and sofas, and so on.

And she continues, "When we finish preparing a certain corner in the house, whether the dining room, the living room or the kitchen, we can add aesthetic touches to it, rejoicing at the advent of the holy month, such as changing some mattresses or "koshas", and hanging lanterns."

Shopping before Ramadan

Kilani says, "The fasting person, after a long day of patience and self-education, needs a rewarding reward of goodness at the time of breaking the fast, so the lady of the house is diligent in preparing what is delicious, so she must first prepare a list of her kitchen needs, and shop smartly before the holy month, after making an inventory of what Her refrigerator and supply cabinets contain it, she buys it carefully, plans her cooking plan week after week, and hangs it on the refrigerator, so it is easy for her to prepare and cook, and she devote herself to worship and organizes her time.”

And after the family gathers and eats in the name of God and what God Almighty has provided them in the holy month, they cooperate in cleaning the table, and cooperate in the spirit of sharing that brings blessings and relieves everyone, they cooperate in clearing dishes, making tea and preparing sweets, and preparing for Tarawih prayers in their quiet corner. They may sleep, or they may stay up until the time of Suhoor, to charge their bodies with food that will provide them with energy and help them to fast on a new day.
