With two weeks left until the first round of elections, Marine Le Pen has been visiting the French island of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean and would be on a link on French television on Saturday.

But the interview with Le Pen from a hotel barely had time to begin before protesters streamed in and attacked her.

Protesters shouted "out Le Pen" and "racist Le Pen" before Le Pen was escorted out of the hotel by guards, Reuters reports.

Pre-election polls suggest Le Pen and President Emmanuel Macron are best placed to win the first round on April 10 and advance to the second round on April 24 - where Macron is currently the favorite to win.
