"Stardom, crowd-pleasing romance, comedy, action: it's a mix that has worked before, and it still does," noted David Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.

And according to the specialist magazine Hollywood Reporter, the film has been particularly successful with female audiences, some 60% of tickets for "The Secret of the Lost City" having been sold to women.

The film dethrones "The Batman", the new dark opus of the adventures of the masked vigilante with Robert Pattinson, which nevertheless continued to reap solid receipts (20.5 million dollars).

Since its release a month ago, the feature film directed by Matt Reeves, with a budget of 200 million dollars, is an international success with 673 million dollars in worldwide receipts, according to figures from the firm Comscore.

The epic "RRR", an Indian film about revolutionary heroes during the colonial era, surprises us by coming in third place with $9.5 million, an exceptional result for a three-hour historical film in Telugu, a South Indian language.

"Uncharted", adaptation of the successful video game published by Sony, where Tom Holland plays a treasure hunter, comes in fourth position with 5 million dollars (133.5 million in total).

The animated film "Jujutsu Kaisen 0" from studio Crunchyroll / Funimation, comes in fifth place, with 4.6 million dollars.

Huge popular success in Japan, this film of dark inspiration, which tells the fight of a young man who became an exorcist against evil spirits, had collected last week a surprising second place for its release in North American cinemas.
