The Dance of Death is originally about a couple who are alone on an island in the Stockholm archipelago.

In the new set in 2022, it is about a couple in quarantine and takes place in Gothenburg.

In the wake of the pandemic, the idea of finding new forms was born to reach a new audience.

Now the Dance of Death will be available to more people through Virtual Reality.

- It is fantastic how you can move to another room and participate in something completely different.

It feels like you are really there, says Lotta Lekvall, CEO of Folkteatern, who herself tested the new VR experience.

The show is delivered home

In practice, this means that you buy tickets to the show, which you later take part in from home through a pair of VR glasses.

A couple of foyer hosts deliver the glasses, introduce the set and later pick up the glasses.

At a time when the gates of cultural life have reopened to the public, Lotta Lekvall still believes that this is an initiative that will work.

- This is a way to work with reaching out in new ways and reaching a different audience.

It will never replace the theater house, but will be a complement.

In addition to reaching those who have difficulty getting to a theater, the idea is to reach out beyond Gothenburg's borders.

In addition to Gothenburg and the surrounding area, the experience is available in the municipalities of Dals-Ed, Bengtsfors, Åmål and Mellerud.

So far, the project is in a development phase.

Whether it is economically viable remains to be seen.

- We have to evaluate that.

What we do now is that we try the new form and the new technology, says Lotta Lekvall.
