The transition committee revealed that the Board of Audit and Inspection expressed concerns about the request for the appointment of a new audit committee member at the end of President Moon Jae-in's term in a report on its counterpart to the Presidential Transition Committee today (25th).

The Board of Audit and Inspection clarified its position while President Moon Jae-in's side and President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's side ran parallel lines over personnel issues such as audit committee members during the working-level meeting.

According to a press release from the Transition Committee’s Political Affairs and Judicial Administration Division, the Board of Audit and Inspection said, “Considering the high degree of political neutrality that audit committee members must maintain, in principle, in situations where there may be controversy or doubts related to political neutrality, such as at the present time, it is appropriate to exercise the right of recommendation. question," he said.

He added, "It is appropriate to exercise the right to make a proposal when the current government and the new government are negotiating in light of past precedents."

Audit committee members are to be appointed by the President at the request of the Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection.

At the same time, the Board of Audit and Inspection reported to the Transition Committee its plan to enhance neutrality and fairness and respond promptly and transparently to the government's audit demands.

Prior to this, the transition committee members emphasized that "the proposal for the appointment of the government audit committee member Yang-ki Lee should not be a factor that undermines the objectivity and fairness of the audit committee operation."

They ordered the Board to restore audit credibility by refraining from repeated or political audits.

It also called for internal innovation, such as upgrading auditing techniques.

In an afternoon briefing, Won Il-hee, senior deputy spokesperson for the transition committee, pointed out that "the facts are completely different" in relation to some reports that "the transition committee members told the Board of Audit and Inspection to reject the request for appointment."

The Munhwa Ilbo reported today that the transition committee has been identified as conveying the position that Chairman Choi Jae-hae of the Board of Audit and Inspection must reject the Blue House's request for appointment of a new audit committee member in the report of the Board of Audit and Inspection.

Won said, "The transition committee has no legal authority, reason, or thought to tell the Board of Audit and Inspection not to reject the proposal," said Won.

He added, "The key is the fact that the Board of Audit and Inspection answered that it is questionable to exercise the right to make a proposal at this point."

Meanwhile, in order to strengthen public office inspection activities following the abolition of the Blue House Senior Office for Civil Politics, there was also discussion about the formation of a team dedicated to handling corruption information in a 'one-stop' way.

In addition, a plan was also considered to expand the criteria for exemption from 'proactive work handling' to 'implementation of normal business procedures' to support public officials so that they can work vigorously, free from the burden of auditing with the possibility of abuse of power in mind.
